Defence members will soon reside in award-winning developments ‘Waterview’ and ‘The Edge Apartments’ at Maribyrnong’s Edgewater Estate in Victoria.
Defence Housing Australia (DHA) acquired five two-bedroom apartments across the two apartment complexes. The sought-after, riverside estate is located seven kilometres from Melbourne CBD and boasts its own marina, complete with riverside walking and bike tracks, restaurants, cafes and a large supermarket.
The high-density estate, developed by CVC Venture Managers, is a joint winner of the 2013 UDIA Awards for Excellence in the High-Density Category. At the recent awards ceremony, it was recognised as an outstanding, high-quality development that aspires to the highest environmental living standards.
“These apartments are a welcome addition to our portfolio,” Peter Howman DHA’s Managing Director said. “It’s the trifecta of location for Defence members—a riverside address, close proximity to Melbourne’s city centre, and ability to service all three of Melbourne’s major Defence facilities.”
Each apartment has a six-star energy efficiency rating or higher, incorporating energy efficient lighting to the kitchen and water harvesting and solar panels that will reduce the building’s carbon footprint. They have a high standard of finish and are equipped with contemporary stainless steel appliances and split heating and cooling systems.
“While these five apartments are not typical of Defence housing [minimum standard is three to four bedrooms], members may opt for this style of accommodation for the location and the amenities.
“There is some evidence that suggests Defence members and families are looking for inner-city apartment living, so as the needs of Defence members are changing so too must our housing. We’re continually building upon our portfolio and looking at ways to ensure a range of housing solutions.”
It is anticipated that the DHA apartments may be sold as part of our property investment program.
