15 October 2014 Maddi and Lloyd judge the best of Bluewattle

Bluewattle dig for cashAward-winning developer, Defence Housing Australia (DHA) officially launched its Bluewattle Builder Display Village to the public in Townsville over the weekend.

The sunny, humid day was action-packed with seven brand new display homes open for display, home and lifestyle workshops, face painting, a barbeque, free fitness lessons and a $10,000 dig for cash promotion. One lucky contestant, chosen by radio station HOT FM, was given 30 seconds to dig his way through a sandpit for the chance to win $10,000. The lucky winner walked away with $4,000 cash.

Maddi and Lloyd, contestants from national television series ‘House Rules’ announced the builder awards and discussed key learnings in design and what’s ‘on-trend’ this year.

The celebrity appearances continued throughout the day with cooking demonstrations from ‘My Kitchen Rules’ contestant Aussie soldier David, and his wife Cath, from ‘cook with love’. Their mouthwatering coconut prawn salad with mango salsa was a hit with the crowd.

Our very own approved DHA builder, DJ Jones constructions, won ‘Best front façade’ as decided by Maddi and Lloyd as well as the ‘People’s Choice Award’ judged by the general public on the day.

DHA’s Development Manager, Cara Doonan said it was a great milestone for Bluewattle.

‘It is the first builder display village for the development and all the builders have worked really hard to get the houses finished on time and looking great,’ Cara said.

Bluewattle Rasmussen will comprise of 1,300 residential lots. Approximately 70 per cent of the development will be sold to the general public and 30 per cent will be retained for Defence members and their families.
