12 July 2016 Defence apartments star in the race for green living

Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) new Shout Ridge project at Crimson Hill, in Sydney, showcases the first apartments in Australia to receive a prestigious 6 Star Green Star - Multi Unit Residential Design V1 certified rating. This rating represents “world leadership” in environmentally sustainable design from the Green Building Council of Australia.

While these are the first apartments to receive the rating, Shout Ridge is the second residential project in the country to receive the 6 Star Green Star rating. The first was another DHA project The Prince’s Terrace Adelaide, undertaken in collaboration with The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community, which was certified in October last year.

Green Star is an internationally-recognised sustainability rating system that evaluates the environmental design and construction of buildings and communities. There are four Green Star rating tools for certification of design, construction and operation of buildings, fitouts and communities.

DHA is in the business of building communities and creating beautiful places for Australian families to live, particularly our Defence families.

‘Buyers are looking for interesting neighbourhoods that are well serviced and where homes are affordable and efficient to run. Sustainability is the right thing to do and it’s what our customers want, so it makes good business sense,’ DHA’s Acting Managing Director Jan Mason said.

Crimson Hill was DHA’s first foray into the apartment market back in 2014 and the public release of Shout Ridge apartments sold out in less than 10 days. Construction is now well underway and the distinctive four-storey complex, in Lindfield on Sydney’s North Shore, is due for completion in September 2016.

The architecturally designed one, two and three-bedroom apartments sit across two buildings. Their wave-like balconies and soaring, cantilevered roofline are a distinctive landmark in DHA’s picturesque Crimson Hill masterplanned community.
