Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has sold a large parcel of land at Breezes Muirhead for a new neighbourhood centre in Darwin’s northern suburbs.
The centre will open in mid-to-late 2018 and will include fresh food retailers, service providers and a 75-place childcare centre.
Muirhead Central Pty Ltd will design and build the centre, with construction expected to commence in mid-2017. The new childcare centre is expected to open for the start of the 2018 school year.
The neighbourhood centre will be located next to Breezes Muirhead’s interactive water play park on Furhmann Street. It will connect DHA’s two communities on either side of Lee Point Road, at Lyons and Muirhead.
With the closest shops to Breezes Muirhead currently at Casuarina Square Shopping Centre and the Hibiscus Centre in Leanyer, the convenience offered by the new Breezes Muirhead neighbourhood centre will ensure that it is a popular addition to the community.
‘The neighbourhood centre will deliver a range of services to the local communities of Breezes Muirhead and Lyons and importantly, it will create another community hub for families,’ said DHA’s Managing Director, Jan Mason
‘The centre will be within walking distance of all homes to deliver on DHA’s promise of developing a community that creates an active, healthy lifestyle.
‘We believe the Centre will be well-utilised by families with young children who can combine a trip to the local shops or collection of their children from childcare, with a coffee with friends or visit to the water play park.
‘It will provide an ideal location for seniors and other groups to meet and forge stronger bonds within the community.’
