The new residents of Heartwood, Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA’s) residential development at Voyager Point, enjoyed a chance to meet their neighbours recently and enjoy a game of street cricket to celebrate the start of construction at the site.
The residential development, which will see 120 homes built for Defence members and their families as well as members of the larger community, will commence construction this week with the first homes to be completed in mid-2014.
“The development is named after the ‘heartwood’ of the Mahogany trees that surround Voyager Point,” DHA Managing Director Peter Howman said.
“The heartwood is the centre of the tree, its spine and its strength. Similarly, the residents of this new development will be the core and the strength of this new community.”
The new community is enveloped by bushland that stretches southwest for more than 70km. The community was designed to promote connectivity throughout the existing area with new cycleways and walkways linking to the bushland and river.
“This development will help fulfil the need for quality housing for Defence members and their families in Sydney. But it will also be home to many members of the public and we welcome them all and hope that they find Heartwood a special place to call home.”
The last land lots (released to the public) in the exclusive Heartwood residential development sold out in four hours when they were released in October.
Civil construction on the residential development has recently been completed while construction of the DHA properties will commence this week. DHA will retain 42 land lots for Defence members and their families.
