Award-winning developer Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has appointed leading Australian builder Cockram Construction to complete its landmark Arkadia apartment project in Alexandria.
Construction will commence in May, with completion expected in November 2018. The project’s estimated total value is $136 million.
Cockram Construction has more than 150 years’ experience in project and construction management. It operates in Australia, Asia, America and New Zealand.
DHA Managing Director, Jan Mason, said Cockram had a reputation for safety, quality of work, professionalism and development of its staff.
‘In many ways, the values they exhibit are very similar to those we pursue at DHA,’ Ms Mason said.
‘I am delighted that we will be partnering with Cockram to complete this state-of-the-art residential project that will be a major addition to this important inner-Sydney precinct.’

Arkadia combines contemporary apartment living with lush green spaces and distinctive residential facilities.
Prominently located at 18 Huntley Street, Arkadia will comprise 152 modern apartments and terraces designed by high-profile architects DKO, who won a design excellence competition in conjunction with Breathe Architecture for the innovative plan.
DKO aspired to create a sense of community with Arkadia. With iconic design, Arkadia’s grand brick arches facilitate the movement of people through several key pedestrian links, while scattered gardens, pocket parks and a ground floor café encourage interaction between residents and visitors alike.
The design was inspired by the evolution of Alexandria and blends the elements of city living with sprawling green spaces. The robust architecture with warm-face brickwork also echoes the history of the site, with it being the former site of the New South Wales Brickworks.’
DHA will be retaining half of the dwellings, while the remaining 71 studio, one bedroom and three bedroom apartments, were made available for sale to the public last October. Many of the apartments will offer wonderful views – those with northern outlooks to the city while the southern outlook is across Sydney Park.
