Defence Housing Australia (DHA) welcomes the appointment of Dr Robert Lang into the position of Chair of the Board effective 13 November 2024, following nine months in the acting chair position.  

Dr Lang was first appointed to the board as a commercial director in October 2023 and brings more than 35 years’ experience to DHA from local and state governments including as the Chief Executive Officer of Parramatta City Council, the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, and Pacific Power. 

His governance portfolio includes appointments as the current Chair of Olympus Solutions and Ability Options, and seats on the boards of Evolve Housing, and the Sydney Festival. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Sydney School of Business. 

Dr Lang’s tenure in government, stakeholder engagement, and people and culture leadership, combined with his longstanding interest in liveable cities, affordable housing and social inclusion positions him well for the role of Chair at DHA. 

Dr Lang said he looks forward to working closely with the board to oversee delivery of DHA’s Corporate Plan to ensure strong ongoing service for Australian Defence Force members and their families.  

“I’m honoured to be appointed Chair of the Board at DHA, following assuming the position of acting chair in February 2024,” he said.  

“I look forward to working with the broader board to deliver on our commitment of providing housing and related services to some 60,000 Australian Defence Force members.” 

Dr Lang’s appointment will see a three-year term as Chair of the Board at DHA.
